How Bad Writing Can Help You Sell More Solar

As solar sales reps, much of our time is spent reaching out to prospects.

This means we spend many hours writing cold emails or texts to ensure they're as clear and well-written as possible.

And we've all gone online and looked up countless articles on how to write better, how to craft the perfect email, or how to use the right words that will get the reader to take action.

Learning from good writers is obviously helpful. But bad writing can teach us just as much.

Like this sales email here:

Dear [CEO],

Very much reaching out of the blue here, but would love to connect & explore potential synergies w [COMPANY], crosschain coin-agnostic platform w 3rd Gen unifying ledger, biometric wallet & zero gas fees or staking?

W integrated storefronts & incentivization, & 7 mln users in the ecosystem, we’re picked by UK gvrnmt as an easy button for blockchain.

Let me know if we may chat?

Best,

[SALESPERSON]

These "sales pitches" are as funny as they are instructive. And there are plenty of mistakes here for us to learn from.

The author of the link above mentioned two that stood out to him (overuse of jargon + not talking about what's in it for the reader). We could point out many more, but we don't have all day.

There are tons of awful sales emails online, and just as many different mistakes a bad writer can make (and a good writer should avoid).

But the more we learn from bad writing, the more we realize that almost all mistakes come down to one thing: the writer doesn't actually care about the reader.

About what the reader wants. What the reader is thinking. How the reader likes to be spoken to.

That all comes down to caring.

For solar consultants, this requires taking the time to learn about your prospect's needs, figure out the ideal solar energy system for them, and look into how to implement it as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Naturally, that takes time. Sometimes lots of time. And it can't be automated. It has to be done purposefully.

So the solar consultant has to learn to balance reaching out to fresh prospects, with following up on current ones.

But this part can be automated. And SolarPipeline does it for you.
